Description

TraSysTM 3218 is a clear solvent-based release coating that exhibits outstanding release or antistick properties with a very low coefficient of friction. The coating is clean, nonoily, nonstaining, chemi- cally inert, and can function in temperatures to 260°C (500°F).

Typical Uses

TraSys 3218 release coating has unique properties, making it an excellent coating for ambient to high temperature release and antistick applications, and is used in areas such as paper rolls, plastic film rolls and guides, printing and paint equipment, epoxy- plastic-wood laminating operations, and many other nonstick applications. Unlike oily release agents, when properly applied, it does not interfere with post-finishing operations. TraSysTM 3218 can be used to eliminate or reduce build-up surfaces and enhance cleaning efforts and other applications requiring a nonstick surface.

Directions for Application

TraSys 3218 should be applied to clean, dry surfaces.

1. Clean surface thoroughly. One of the following methods can be used: abrasive pads and cleaning solvent or high pH detergent or glass or plastic bead media for more difficult to clean surfaces.

2. Spray application is recommended. Use spray equipment that produces an atomized spray. Apply a light coating in a fine mist over the entire desired area. Wipe off any drops or overspray on the edges or sides. Wait approxi- mately 10 min; apply a second coating, again in a fine mist, but in a perpendicular direction to the first method. Again, wipe off any drops or overspray on the edges or sides. Apply as many coats as needed to build up to desired coating thickness. Allow 15–30 min after the final coat is applied before handling. If wiping, lightly dampen a clean cloth with TraSysTM 3218 after agitation. Apply lightly to the surface, making certain that all areas are entirely coated. Allow coating to air dry 30 min before handling surface. To quicken the dry time, lightly pass warm air over the coated surface for 3–5 min

3. The coating can be cured by putting it through a bake cycle to fuse the coating, a minimum surface temperature of 149°C (300°F) (316°C [600°F] max.) is recommended for 10–15 min. Proper curing will give a bond between surfaces and coating that will ensure durability and cycle life. When the surface is cooled down, take a clean cotton cloth and gently wipe the surface. The surface must be hard and smooth to give long life.

4. When spot touch-ups are needed, spray lightly or use a lightly dampened cloth to apply to the surface.

Handling and Storage

Adequate ventilation must be provided in work areas where TraSysTM 3218 release coating is applied. Breathing mist or vapors should be avoided, just as sprayed paint inhalation should be avoided. Where appropriate, care should be taken to wear charcoal filter mask or respirator, gloves, safety glasses, and impervious clothing and boots when mixing, spray- ing, and during cleanup. Vapor from the solvent may develop slight pressure. Therefore, care should be exercised when opening containers. Containers should be closed promptly after removing part of the contents to avoid evaporation. Always wash hands after handling TraSysTM 3218 release coating. Refer to MSDS for further information.
